This year, SLANA commemorated the UN Anti Drug Day with a new dimension on the theme “Listen First”, by conducting an Opinion Poll among school going children. This Opinion Poll was held in two provinces of the country; Sabaragamuwa and Southern. Poll reached children who are in the ages between 12- 19 years, by asking their views and perceptions on drugs.
SLANA aimed through this endeavor to obtain a comparison of the thinking patterns of the same age group of children in two different districts. While having discussions with students, many of them in both groups said the drug problem has increased than the past. The adult thinking captured through the teachers in regard to the causative factors of this increase was the breaking up of families, internal family problems, community based issues resulting from the availability of drugs in their villages and towns than ever before.
